Pyongyang [North Korea], September 12: The South Korean military has confirmed that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) today, September 12, launched several short-range ballistic missiles toward the sea between the Korean Peninsula and Japan.
The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said it detected multiple short-range ballistic missiles being launched into the sea between the Korean Peninsula and Japan at around 7:10 a.m. on September 12 (5:10 a.m. on September 12, Vietnam time), according to AFP.
The JCS said it was analyzing the details of North Korea's new missile launch and "closely sharing information on North Korea's ballistic missiles with US and Japanese authorities, while strengthening monitoring and vigilance in preparation for additional launches."
Japan's Defense Ministry also confirmed a suspected ballistic missile launch by North Korea, with the Japanese coast guard advising ships to exercise caution.
There is no information yet on Pyongyang's reaction. The last time North Korea launched a ballistic missile was on July 1
Speaking at a meeting with senior officials of the Workers' Party of Korea and the government on the occasion of the country's national day (September 9), North Korean leader Kim Jong-un declared that Pyongyang is steadily implementing a policy of increasing the number of nuclear weapons exponentially, according to KCNA news agency.
Mr Kim said the US-led move to expand its military alliance in the region posed a serious security threat. He said North Korea's military power would grow "acceleratingly and continuously" and that there would be no limit to achieving its goals.
