12.5 lakh Domicile Certificates issued in J&K

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Sep 03 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir government has issued 12.5 lakh domicile certificates so far. Government has make domicile certificates compulsory for admissions and for jobs in the union territory. Over 99 percent of certificates issued to erstwhile Permanent Resident Certificate (PRCs) holders, Kashmiri Pandit migrants and others. The rules have a provision that applications for grant of Domicile Certificate can be submitted either physically or online. The Competent Authority can also issue domicile certificate(s) online. District administration has opened many centres for local residents to get these domicile certificates. Srinagar residents in large numbers are applying for these certificates at these centres of Srinagar district. Local residents say that domicile certificates are important in the present scenario and revenue officials are helping them to get these certificates easily. “This Domicile certificate is only for job. People are not facing problems in collecting them. Early we used to provide the certificate in 15 days, now according to new order we have to provide the certificate within 5 days. In this tehsil we had issued 3, 341 domicile certificates online and offline. We are facing some delay in internet but trying our best that this pendency will end soon,” said Tehsildar’s Samiullah Naqashbandi. Domicile certificate has become an important in the life of Jammu and Kashmir’s people. It is an important document to establish that one has been a resident of a particular state and can avail benefits stipulated by educational institutions or government jobs by virtue of being such a resident. Domicile under the new law is the basic eligibility condition for appointment to any post under the UT of J-K following amendments in the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Decentralization and Recruitment) Act, 2010.
