Study associates altered ratio of baby boys to girls with new pollutants
Dec 04, 2021
New Delhi, Dec 04 (ANI): As per a study published in the 'PLOS Computational Biology Journal', the changes in the human sex ratio at birth have been associated with the presence of air and water pollutants. At a biological level, the sex ratio at birth (SRB) can be affected by hormonal factors. There were numerous pollutants that were found to be associated with changes to the SRB. Some of these pollutants were iron, lead, mercury, carbon monoxide, aluminium in the air, and chromium and arsenic in water. The study, however, could not determine whether or not the pollutants actually caused the observed changes in the SRB.
